ABOUT

A public-data research desk for Premier League history.

English Football Stats Explorer is an independent CMD Digital Labs product for supporters who want to investigate Premier League history rather than just look up a score or static record.

QUESTION FIRST

Built around investigations

The interface starts from questions people actually ask about clubs, seasons, runs, records and eras—not from whatever columns happen to exist in a dataset.

TRANSPARENT

Facts and derived values stay distinct

Source facts, official table adjustments and Explorer-derived analytics are labelled separately. Methodology and coverage travel with the result.

INDEPENDENT

No implied endorsement

The product is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Premier League, The FA, individual clubs or data providers.

DATA FOUNDATION

What the current release uses.

Match / fixture historyOpenFootball public-domain data, mapped onto Explorer-owned club, season and match identities.
Table adjustmentsSeparately logged points deductions and appeal corrections with dated public evidence.
AnalyticsExplorer-derived tables, snapshots, full-era Advanced Analysis, form, streaks, records, H2H and cross-era measures with machine-readable coverage metadata.
2017/18 specialist eventsPappalardo/Wyscout open event data under CC BY 4.0, mapped onto Explorer-owned club, match and player identities for the source-scoped Deep Data Lab.
Known correctionsMeasured source errors are preserved in a correction ledger containing the original value, corrected value, reason and evidence.
COVERAGE

1992/93 to today

Full-time match results and fixture dates support the entire Premier League era in the current database. Half-time detail is less uniform and is therefore coverage-gated.

DESIGN PRINCIPLE

Broad first, specialist where justified

Advanced result-based analysis spans the whole Premier League era. Specialist player/event analysis and Explorer xG appear only for 2017/18, where the measured event dataset supports them, rather than making other seasons feel incomplete.
